Motril mayor welcomes Saharan children

CHILDREN from the Sahara are in Motril to experience an unforgettable summer thanks to altruist families from the town.
At the town hall, mayor of Motril, Flor Almon, welcomed the 14 children from Western Sahara who will spend their holidays with local families within the ‘Peaceful Holidays’ programme, launched by the Friends of the Sahara Association.
“The generosity of our families towards these children is admirable,” said the mayor. “They have thrown themselves into this project in a selfless way, creating bonds with these children that will last forever.”
Angeles Rubiño, head of the association Friends of the Sahara in Granada, said: “This initiative helps us share our culture and learn about other customs and traditions.”
The children’s ages range between seven and 14. They will stay with their new families until the end of August and participate in various local activities and excursions, including a trip to Sevilla, amongst others.
