THE ongoing situation regarding the administrative concession to operate the marina in Altea has been brought to the attention of the Valencian government.
It has been 15 years since the regulation to run the marina, where the Altea Yacht Club is based, expired. Since then there has been a yearly rolling contract but this has put considerable strain on the owners and workers.
The owners wish to make improvements to the club but without a long-term contract in place they could not commit to any financial venture. The workers have suffered considerably from the uncertainties surrounding their place of work and not knowing whether their jobs will continue.
At a meeting at Altea Town Hall, the mayor, Jaume Llinares, and representatives from the Altea Yacht Club met to discuss the situation. After the meeting the mayor promised to contact the relevant authorities in Valencia to inform them of the urgency of this issue. Llinares agreed that the current uncertainty was damaging to the marina, the workers and also to Altea.
