First beach tournament for Costa Cobras rugby

BEACH RUGBY: Costa Cobras team get valued experience at the San Javier beach 5's tournament

THE Costa Cobras Rugby Football Club entered their first beach rugby tournament at the San Javier beach 5’s at the weekend, offering great experience for the players with just two having previous beach rugby experience.
Beach rugby offers a slightly different way of playing rugby; a lot faster with no rucks, scrums or line outs.
Costa Cobras were in a very strong league playing against Lorca, who were runners up in the Formentera del Segura 7’s, and against Cartagena and Murcia XV; all of the teams play in the Murcia first division.
The first game was against Lorca with Costa Cobras holding their own well in the first half but as the match wore on their experience began to tell and number of subs as well, losing 4-0.
Juniors Kyle and Jamie were with the team getting their first experience of tournament rugby and they did brilliantly with Jamie putting in some great defensive tackles, while Kyle set up two great tries with excellent off loads. Both of them did extremely well and have a great future at the club.
The seniors finished off their league matches later on in the day, narrowly being defeated against Murcia XV and taking Cartagena to the wire with a 6-6 draw but losing in the sudden death.
The next tournament is at the San Juan beach 7’s on August 1 in Alicante and anyone is welcome to go along and support the club or join in.
During the summer months training is continuing on Guardamar beach on Monday and Wednesday at 8pm and all ages, gender and nationalities are welcome, from beginners to experienced players.
