Man arrested in Spain for recruiting to Islamic State

A 29-YEAR-OLD Melilla man has been arrested by Spanish police on suspicion of distributing literature in order to recruit for the Islamic State group. Assisted by the Moroccan authorities, the arrest came as part of a police operation which is targeting networks for the group who are recruiting young girls and women to send to Syria and Iraq.
A woman in the Canary Islands was arrested on July 7 earlier this month on a similar offence and stands accused of recruiting and arranging to send 12 women to Islamic militants in Syria.
So far this year, Spain has arrested 49 people (including the Melilla arrest) on suspicion of carrying out activities for Islamic militants.
