GAME of Thrones’ mighty warrior woman Brienne of Tarth is the new face of Vivienne Westwood’s latest collection. The actress Gwendoline Christie is modelling the avant-garde British designer’s 2015-16 autumn/winter range in a campaign that is all about unisex.
Her character in the series doesn’t have a lot of time for glamour in between sword fighting and oath-upholding, but the six foot three actress looks fantastic in Westwood’s creations, which are designed to be worn by men or women, whether dresses or suits.
And for Christie, the collaboration is about more than just wearing beautiful clothes. “It is so relevant for Vivienne Westwood to reassert their activist mindset and create a collection that takes us beyond our current gender stereotypes with beauty and intelligence,” she says.
Westwood said: “I met Gwendoline at our Red Label show in London. At the time we were planning our next Gold Label AW15/16 show.
“In this collection the same suit can be worn by a man and a woman, then I realised Gwendoline would be perfect.
“She is such an attractive woman – when I asked her to be in the show, as well as the campaign, we got to know each other, she is a really interesting woman.”
Christie’s film career is also going stratospheric, due to appear in the final Hunger Games film this year, and the breathlessly awaited Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
