FORMER world champion boxer Scott Harrison will be extradited from his home in Scotland to Spain where he faces a four-year sentence for assault. The ex-WBO featherweight champion was sentenced by a Malaga court in 2012, but he left Spain before he could be taken to jail.
Harrison’s representatives argued in Edinburgh High Court that the European Arrest Warrant issued against the boxer when he left Spain had not been put in place according to extradition law. However, a judge overruled that in March, with the decision upheld in court on Friday July 17. The 37-year-old was also refused bail.
Harrison was the first Scottish boxer to regain the WBO title, but his sporting career was cut short, with reports of a struggle with alcohol. He has served two jail sentences in the past, sent to Glasgow’s HMP Barlinnie in 2008 for drink driving and assault, and in 2009 spent time in Alhaurin de la Torre prison, again for assault.
