FOLLOWING almost two decades of disagreements and distancing, Torremolinos and Benalmadena councils are working to bridge the gap both figuratively and literally.
The mayors of both towns have held a meeting to discuss a number of issues which affect them both, with a road connection between La Leala Norte in Arroyo de la Miel and El Pinillo the main priority.
Jose Ortiz, Mayor of Torremolinos, later explained that the connection was a long-standing demand from the approximately 2,000 residents in the area, which the two councils aim to meet at last.
Studies will now be carried out to see how to build, and fund, the connection, the mayors explained.
Ortiz’s counterpart for Benalmadena, Victor Navas, said: “New times are ahead thanks to the great new relationship between the two councils.”
Other matters on the agenda that affect both towns included facing the problem of noise in areas with busy nightlife and the possibility of sharing common service costs.
