THE Guardia Civil has confiscated three guns and ammunition in Sotogrande-San Roque following a spectacular car chase.
The officers, who were carrying out routine checks on the A7 motorway, noticed a white car which left the queue of traffic and sped off in the direction it had come from. They gave chase.
During a four-kilometre chase along the wrong side of the motorway, a bag was thrown from the car which upon collection was found to contain two loaded guns and two baseball caps bearing the word ‘Police’.
The chase continued into the residential area of Sotogrande, where the three people in the car got out and made a run for it before officers could catch them.
The abandoned car, bearing false registration plates, was found to have been stolen from Altea (Alicante) in 2014, and another gun, more ammunition, another baseball cap and three fake registration plates were found inside it.
Officers also discovered a frequency inhibitor, more ammunition and four balaclavas on the ground near the car.
