IN the first five months of this year, 171,540 cruise ship passengers visited Malaga Port, 6.2 per cent more than during the same period in 2014.Ninety-eight cruises stopped at the port, 8.9 per cent more than the previous year.Spain has received 2.9 million cruise ship passengers between January and May, which is six per cent more than during the same period in 2015, and 1,381 ships.The most popular port was Barcelona, with 736,832 passengers, 6.6 per cent more than in the first five months of 2014; followed by Las Palmas with 629,774 (up 12 per cent); Santa Cruz de Tenerife with 436,163 (down 0.6 per cent), and the Balearic Islands with 419,065 (down 2.4 per cent). Malaga was fifth in terms of the number of passengers who visited the port.
