THE College of Veterinarians has called for better regulations for pets in Malaga after revealing it is the Andalucian province with the largest number of registered pets.
During the first half of this year 17,243 new pets were registered, bringing the total to 476,189, the College reported after analysing data on the Andalucian Animal Identification Register.
So far this year, 15,097 dogs, 2,095 cats and 51 ferrets have been registered, meaning Malaga is now home to 21.49 per cent of Andalucia’s pet population.
Of the total, there are 423,952 dogs, 43,586 cats, 2,152 ferrets and 6,499 other pets registered, leading the College to believe that better regulations for pets, regarding matters including permission to use beaches and public transport, need to be put into place.
