GERMAN tourists and African street vendors got involved in a major brawl on Wednesday (July 8) in S’Arenal’s Calle del Jamon.
The two groups fought against each other throwing bar stools and all kinds of objects they found within reach, according to witnesses.
The fight started at around 7.30pm in the Calle Pare Bartomeu Salva in Platja de Palma, known amongst tourists as Calle del Jamon or Schinkenstraße.
According to witnesses, the brawl started when one of the street vendors, a Senegalese man, approached a tourist to offer him items to purchase. The German man allegedly threw one of the items, which shattered into pieces. When the vendor urged the man to pay for the item and he refused, they both got into a fight.
The brawl was reported to be so extreme that witnesses had to take shelter in the area’s bars. Most of them were closed up by owners to protect customers and belongings.
Local Police was alerted to the events, and officers were told at least 40 people were taking part in the fight.
Upon their arrival, most of the members of both groups fled the scene. A German 24-year-old man sustained minor injuries, though he declined being assisted by the emergency services.
No one has been taken into custody in connection with this incident, according to police.
