THE Balearic Islands have been rated as the second most in demand tourism destination in the whole of the country amongst Spanish residents.
With 18 per cent of the total bookings, the Islands were only beaten by Andalucia (with 33 per cent of the total) according to a study carried out by holiday rental online platform HomeAway.
The study also shows that the Islands are the autonomous community with the second highest increase in holiday apartment bookings, with a 37 per cent growth compared to the last summer season.
The Islands were followed by the Valencian Community (15 per cent) and Catalonia (12 per cent).
In terms of nationalities, tourists from the UK, Germany and Italy are big fans of the Balearic Islands, making them their first choice, while French tourists prefer Catalonia, mainly for reasons of proximity.
