A 29-YEAR-OLD beachgoer, an Argentinian resident of Daimús, suffered a fall on Sunday July 5 from the northern cliff at Moraig Beach in Poble Nou de Benitachell.
The man was climbing down the cliff to join some friends below when he fell, seriously injuring his right leg. He was unable to move and emergency services were called in to rescue him by helicopter.
Mountain rescue personnel recovered the victim from a flat rock using a cable and gurney, transferring him to Denia Fire Station from where he was taken to Denia Hospital by ambulance. His condition is reported to be non-life threatening but he is suffering a great deal of pain.
According to rescue personnel neither the victim nor his friends were wearing suitable footwear for rock climbing.
In a separate incident, a second rescue helicopter was deployed to rescue a mountain climber at a height of 200 meters on the Puig Campana. The victim made a distress call at around 12.30pm when the effects of extreme heat rendered him unable to continue with his planned trek. He was taken to Finestrat. Apart from heat exhaustion he was none the worse for his ordeal.
