Gender violence support centre opens in Elche

AIVIG asociación ilicitana contra la violencia de género on Facebook

A COUNSELLING and support centre for victims of gender violence has been opened in Calle Veronica 16 in Elche with a 24-hour telephone contact line and professional support from a team of psychologists and sexologists as well as legal and social experts.
The Ilicitana Association Against Gender Violence (AIVIG) officially opened the service on Monday July 6 at 7.30pm although the team have been in operation behind the scenes for some weeks.
President of AIVIG Marina Marroquí said: “Now we can support victims with expert help from psychologists and sexologists and also help with social aspects and provide legal assistance. What we want is for women to come to us before they become a victim of serious aggression.”
Group therapy is also available.
In the past six weeks the team has dealt with around 75 cases, previously meeting in cafes and private homes, but it was crucial for AIVIG to have its own premises.
Ms Marroquí added: “The generosity of the Pascual Ros Aguilar Foundation and Perán Pikolinos are behind the funding of this project that was postponed for months by the previous government team.”
