THREE unofficial taxis have been fined in Marbella in the first 24 hours of a new police operation, the council has reported.The operation came into effect on July 1 and aims to eradicate unofficial taxi services, which compete with and harm the official sector, Transport councillor Miguel Diaz explained.An informative campaign has been launched, aimed especially at tourists and visitors who tend to fall prey to unofficial drivers. Leaflets in a number of languages will be distributed, and hotels and other tourist facilities will be collaborating.Diaz stressed that the official taxi service in the city is professional, safe and affordable and helps boost local economy.
