Scorchio temperatures!

WHY I LIVE HERE: Lying on the sand on a towel while my daughter played in the sea with her friends.

AS soon as the temperatures rise things start to happen.
1) We start to complain loudly about how HOT it is to our friends and neighbours whilst bragging about exactly the same thing to our poor relatives back home.
2) We lose our temper in our cars because either the air con has given up the ghost or there’s some crazy boy racer in their open top sports car trying to drive us off the road.
3) We get tired, really, really tired and need to have siestas.
4) We sweat, a lot, and we get thirsty. But sometimes we don’t remember to drink enough water and then get weak or dizzy or get cramps. (This happened last weekend to a gentleman at an event I was photographing, he didn’t drink enough water and stood in the heat, and fainted, seriously hurting himself when he fell).
5) We get mystery tummy bugs and viruses. Plenty of people have been suffering from them recently, just carrying around some antibacterial hand wipes (and using them) can decrease your chances of catching something nasty.
6) We can get seriously sunburnt if we don’t remember to use sun block.
7) Our sleep is disturbed, it’s difficult to get enough rest when it’s so hot.
8) Many of us get badly bitten by mosquitoes and have to work out ways to keep ourselves safe from them: including nets, a fan, high pitched electrical devices and citronella liberally sprayed on everything.
So, you wouldn’t be surprised if now and again I might ask myself, why oh why do I live here? Last weekend I was forced to go to the beach and lay on the sand on a towel whilst my daughter laughed and played with her friends in the sea.
Then I had to go to a local restaurant and have a Pa amb Oli as it was too late to make dinner, so of course I had to have a glass of wine with my dinner, whilst gazing at the turquoise blue Mediterranean Sea and the sun setting behind Dragonera Island. It was as if I was on a secret holiday for the afternoon, so yes, I do have to check that I do actually live here, now and again…
