DESPITE the financial crisis the amount of tourist accommodation has risen more than 70 per cent in the past decade.
According to the Junta de Andalucia Council for Tourism and Sport, there are now 2,944 establishments including hotels, hostels, guest houses, rural accommodation, apartments and campsites. That is 1,217 more than in 2005.
The province has 173,868 available places to stay, and the quality is better, because whereas in 2005, there were more three-star hotels, now there are 140 four-star hotels and 18 five-star hotels.
While there are fewer guest houses, there are more tourist apartments and country houses, but the number of campsites remains more or less the same.
Despite the number of tourists visiting the province falling at one point during the financial crisis, things have now improved so much that in past years, record numbers of visitors have been seen, and this year could be even better.
Hoteliers complain that they have had to put their prices down while their expenses remained the same, but now they can afford to put their prices up a little bit.
