THE Gibraltar team didn’t have to wait long to celebrate at the Island Games, currently taking place in Jersey, picking up gold in the very first event. Half marathon runner Kim Bagglietto bagged first place and a new national record, coming in at one hour 21 minutes and 36 seconds.
Kim had reportedly only decided to take part in the half marathon race the day before, and surprised everyone, including herself, with her excellent result.
Her teammate Allison Edwards finished 12th, the pair’s combined result also winning them the team silver.
The women runners’ triumph was followed yesterday with another long-distance gold in the men’s 5,000m, Harvey Dixon crossing the line one second ahead of Bermuda’s Christopher Estwanik.
Gib has also picked up bronzes in shooting and the men’s team triathlon.
