Fiddles fill calle Gerona, Benidorm’s Irish home

THE Shamrock Pub in Benidorm recently celebrated its official 20th Anniversary with a great party featuring the best Irish bands on the circuit and the Matt Hogan Irish Dance Company flew in from Ireland to take part. From midday the unmistakeable sound of Irish fiddles filled Benidorm’s calle Gerona and the party went on for four days!
The Shamrock has become a real success story for owners Brian Sweeney and Lisa Griffin. Lisa is from Liverpool – Brian hails from Donegal and there’s no doubt that the Shamrock is Irish through and through.
This is a great pub with hard-working owners who like to get things right. On a typical summer night 200 – 300 happy party-goers will be hitting calle Gerona and heading straight for the Shamrock, a real Irish pub with all the right credentials from Guinness St James Gate recognising an authentic Irish establishment. It is not enough just to want be an Irish-themed pub – you have to do things in the right way to attain true recognition and the Shamrock ticks all the boxes. It is also listed with Heineken España.
Brian and Lisa bought the Shamrock in 1993 and immediately gave it a facelift, working hard to make it into the pub it is today. It was established as an Irish Pub in 1995 with a great food menu, home-cooked steak and ale pies and Irish stews, fresh and hot, a great party atmosphere with fabulous live entertainment and all with generous helpings of Guinness served at exactly the right temperature.
“At the Shamrock there is always a welcome,” said Lisa, “If we were going to have an Irish pub we wanted a proper one and the Shamrock certainly fits the bill!”
