Work accident related deaths on the up

WORK accidents killed 197 people in Spain in the first four months of this year, 11 more than in the same period in 2014, the Ministry of Employment and Social Security has reported.
Of the 197 fatal accidents registered between January and April, 161 were during normal working hours, 15 more than in the same months in 2014, while 36 were on the way to or from work (four less than last year.)
Of the 161 deaths during working hours, 87 were in the services sector, 38 in the industrial sector, 20 in construction and 16 in agriculture.
Over the four month period, a total of 162,365 work accidents resulted in employees requiring sick leave, of which 139,982 happened during the working day and 22,383 on route to or from work.
Accidents resulting in sick leave increased 5.2 per cent compared to figures for January-April 2014.
Of the total number of accidents that occurred during the working day, 1,009 were classed as serious (46 less than in 2014) and 138,812 as minor.
Of the 22, 383 en route, 22,081 were minor and 266 serious.
