Alcudia power line work postponed until October

AS the summer season is by far the most important period for Mallorca towns, the work to place a high voltage cable in Alcudia has been postponed until the season is over.
Work had already been interrupted by a decree signed by the town mayor, Toni Mir, almost two weeks ago due to excessive noise and ground vibrations.
The mayor signed a decree on Tuesday (June 16) to paralyse the project based on a study made by experts certifying the work did not comply with regulations.
In a meeting with the company in charge, Red Electrica, they agreed to not resume work until October.
“They have voluntarily postponed work at least until October,” said Mr Mir. “And even though the project has been approved by the regional government, the town council’s intention is to change the underground route of the power line to prevent it from crossing the city centre, or passing next to the Norai public school.”
