Court finds no proof of Fabio Testi fraud

THE Almeria provincial high court has cleared Italian actor Fabio Testi of fraud. Testi’s former wife Maria Dolores Navarro had accused him and a business associate of cheating her out of her Almeria City apartment.
Navarro claimed that Testi invented a 200 million lira debt arising from two promissory notes she allegedly signed in his favour in 1994. He sold these on to the associate who called in the debt in 2001, receiving Navarro’s apartment to settle what she owed. It was later sold for €146,000.
The court ruled Navarro provided insufficient proof that 73-year-old Testi and his associate plotted to share the €146,000 between them. Nor was it incriminating that Testi had paid the other man’s legal costs when chasing the debt, the judge said.
