Partick Thistle unveils bizarre new mascot by artist David Shrigley

PARTICK THISTLE is generally Glasgow’s less-talked about football team, but when they unveiled their terrifying new mascot yesterday, social media networks could talk of little else.
Thistle, whose base near Glasgow’s leafy West End means it has a reputation for attracting the city’s artsy and intellectual types to their stands, commissioned Turner-prize nominated contemporary artist David Shrigley, known for his absurdist drawings, to design the new mascot.
His brainchild, Kingsley, has stormed social media, and according to a whole load of Photoshopped images, is now literally storming Glasgow, Godzilla style.
The black-eyed, mono-browed monster, likened variously to a meth-addicted Lisa Simpson or a Scottish ‘demented sun god,’ is inspiring equal measures of horror, hilarity and fondness – much like Partick Thistle itself.
So is Kingsley the strangest mascot you’ve ever seen? Would you let your kids hug him if he came running towards them? Is anyone brave enough to crack jokes about the Jags now that Kingsley leads the vanguard of the team’s supporters? Or is this in fact a genius ploy to get the whole world talking about the wee club from Maryhill? Let us know what you think!
