THE winner of an international competition to redesign Almeria City’s old Local Police headquarters and turn the 1935 building into a library, provides a ‘modern, European touch,’ the judges have revealed.
The Tri Teca project, drawn up by Helena de Sebastian Ochotorena, Rosa Ballester Espigares and Ignacio Espigares Enriquez, aims to undress the old building, created by Guillermo Langle 80 years ago, and provide light, open spaces.
The premises will hold a large library, auditorium and cafeteria which can be opened and closed individually allowing different uses to be independent, the panel of judges explained.
The cafeteria, which in the past was housed on the first floor, will be heading upstairs to make use of the terrace and open up views of the surrounding area, while the inside patio will be brought to life with plants and seating to allow visitors to sit and read.
