A MADRID woman staying in Garrucha was charged with fraud and falsely reporting a crime. The 64-year-old went to the Guardia Civil to report that her bag had been snatched by a man on a bicycle as she walked alone in Garrucha.
As well as her personal documentation the bag had contained €250 in cash and her spectacles. These had cost €600 and she could describe them in detail to the Guardia Civil officers but not her mugger.
They began to doubt her when the glasses she put on to read through the statement closely resembled those supposedly stolen with her bag.
They asked her to take them to the spot where she said the mugging occurred but she began to contradict herself and they noticed glaring inconsistencies in her story.
The woman finally admitted that the entire story was fabrication. She needed new keys to her home and took bad advice by trying to defraud her insurance company.
