Judge rules on Murcia wedding ruined by lack of aircon

WE DON’T: Couple refuse to pay wedding costs as reception is ruined in searing heat

A JUDGE has sided with a couple who refused to pay their full wedding reception costs after the restaurant’s air conditioning system broke.
The court in Murcia, upon hearing the couple’s story, agreed that the situation resulted in a “serious breach of contract by the company providing the service due lack of local climate conditions where the wedding banquet was held.”
The wedding was in July 2009 at a popular restaurant in Murcia. The bride and groom complained that temperatures were so hot their guests did not finish their meal and they were being served by sweating waiters. They had paid €8,600 of the nearly €12,600 cost of the celebration and refused to settle the outstanding bill.
The couple registered a complaint with the Ministry of Tourism and the restaurant was fined €600.
The judge agreed the couple did not have to pay the remaining money.
