UNTOUCHED: Cabo de Gata-Nijar park
THE Junta de Andalucia again launched its campaign to keep the Cabo de Gata-Nijar park neat and tidy.“You brought it, you take it,” the public is being reminded in a bid to protect the park and its beaches from litter louts.Although the national park receives visitors year round, the influx of summer visitors brings a series of conservation and maintenance challenges, the regional government said.“We all like it to be clean. Don’t leave refuse, take it away with you,” notices throughout the park will urge visitors in the places where rubbish collection services do not operate.“The councils of Almeria City, Nijar and Carboneras only carry out mechanical and manual cleaning or emptying litterbins on urban beaches,” explained the regional government’s Environment delegate in Almeria, Jose Manuel Ortiz. Services like these do not apply to virgin beaches and, as in untouched Doñana or Mulhacen for instance, it is also up to users to take environmental responsibility, he added.
