IT’S official! Benidorm is to host a ‘Colour Race’ on Sunday, September 6 from 11am. Colour Races, sometimes known as ‘Colour Runs’ are fun events held throughout the world. Essentially such activities are held for participants who like to let off steam in the most flamboyant and enjoyable way possible, running, jogging or walking through a set course, being sprayed and plastered with coloured powder along the way until they are completely rainbow hued!Sports and Festival councillors Juan Ramón Martinez and Cristina Escoda are confidant the event will be a huge hit. Parties such as this go down so well in party-loving Spain and is almost certain to catch the imaginations of Benidorm residents and visitors.Juan Ramón Martiínez said: “In a city where athletic events such as the Hotel Bali steps contest and the half marathon are so popular, the Colour Race is sure to appeal.” The race will begin at the SSMM Plaza and continue over a five kilometre circular route arriving back at the same point a lot messier!Organiser Carlos Mateo explained: “Every kilometre the runners will pass under an arch of colour where they will be sprayed by around 10 tons of safe and biodegradable powdered colours. Thus runners begin the test dressed in white but end it looking very different.”The run will be accompanied by music and the cheers of a crowd expected to exceed 5,000.Cristina Escoda said: “This is certain to be the first of many such editions in the future. Benidorm loves a party and this event has all the ingredients for fun!”
