SAS, the region’s Health service was soon back online after its centralised computer system DIRAYA crashed.
DIRAYA coordinates medical records, appointments and details of patients’ prescriptions but the entire system came to a halt following a mid-morning electrical fault at the Data Processing Centre in Malaga. Of the region’s hospitals, only those in Eastern Andalucia, including Almeria Province, were affected and the system was back online within two hours.
The service was gradually restored to the region’s health centre computers throughout the day while the appointments programme was fully restored by 1am the next day. None of the SAS’s nine million files were damaged, the Health authorities revealed.
