Four whales spotted off Cap de Sant Antoni

Fin whale off Denia

FOUR magnificent whales have been sighted off the Denia coast near Cap de Sant Antoni, swimming south from the Ligurian Sea.
The crew of a sailing yacht enjoying a day on the water spotted two whales at first, then another two were spotted by the coastguard a while later, not far from the cliffs.
All four were Fin Whales, the world’s second largest whale species. The area off Sant Antoni is earning its nickname ‘Whale Highway’ as so many whales are being seen close to shore in recent years. The theory is that the whales veer slightly off course, taking them closer to the shore than is usual and affording hobby sailors a memorable close up view.
