Currencies Direct: the ‘sympatico’ approach

MORAIRA-BASED: The office is a friendly place.

CURRENCIES DIRECT is a highly motivated and successful financial services provider that focuses on overseas currency transfers, saving its steadily growing portfolio of grateful clients a significant amount in exchange fees every year.
The Moraira-based office accommodates a small team with a big attitude toward the wellbeing of its clients. And it’s not all about finance. The Euro Weekly News (EWN) went along to see the ladies at Currencies Direct to find out how they feel about working on the sunny Costa Blanca.
Client Account Executive Sherry Fraser- Currie, originally from Haworth in Yorkshire, has been in Spain for nine years and lives in Benitachell with her husband. She said: “I just love it here – the village life, the warm weather, the friendliness of the local community… And I love my working life here, in a friendly company where my work colleagues are trusted friends.”
Sherry went on to emphasise that so many of Currencies Direct’s regular customers drop into the office to touch base with the team, sometimes just to say hello. In fact, Sherry will pick up the phone and call if someone is notably absent for a few weeks! “Well, it’s just the friendly thing to do, many of our clients are elderly and perhaps don’t have family nearby.
We genuinely care and life shouldn’t be all business. Our customers come in to chat or ask for advice on a range of different things, perhaps to enquire where to buy things and sometimes just to say hi.” The name for this attitude in Spain is ‘sympatico’ – a mutual understanding – that warm and affectionate approach to others in general.
Client Account Executive Siw Hellebust is also in love with her adopted country. Hailing from Bergen in chilly Norway, Siw has lived in Calpe for a year and a half with her daughter who is happily integrated into life in a Spanish school and enjoying the Mediterranean lifestyle. “I wouldn’t even consider leaving Spain now,” said Siw, “I adore everything about it, the people, the warmth, the culture, the cuisine…”
Of course, customers of Currencies Direct do tend to have a smile on their faces anyway as the company performs a great service. They help people keep their money in their pockets instead of being wasted on needless charges, making all that hard-earned and hard-saved cash go so much further and buying so much more whether it is for day-to-day expenses, topping up the pension or for that dream house purchase.
