Concerns over possible asbestos contamination

AN OLD tile factory in Velez-Malaga is causing concern amongst authorities as it is believed there could be asbestos in the building
THE prosecution office of the Malaga Court has announced they will pursue legal action for an alleged crime against public health at the factory known as El Prado.
The decision has been taken after an official report was issued by members of independent party Equo. According to Councillor Jose Luis Gamez, works to dismantle the factory took place back during the Constitution holidays in December, without taking any safety measures to handle asbestos.
“The factory’s roof was dismantled without removing the asbestos,” Mr Gamez said, and explained that the situation was even more delicate with a shopping centre, a water park, an event hall and a senior home in the area close to the factory.
According to him, the remains still represent a hazard for residents of the town and the environment.
