THE number of volunteers in local Civil Protection groups in Malaga Province increased by 1 per cent last year compared to 2013, the authorities have reported.The Junta de Andalucia regional government’s Justice and Interiors Department’s report for 2014 revealed that a total of 1,701 volunteers were registered with local groups, providing services in 51 municipalities.Of the total, 1,220 were registered in towns with more than 10,000 inhabitants and the remaining 481 in smaller municipalities.The number places Malaga at the top of the regional ranking for volunteers, explained Junta delegate Jose Luis Ruiz Espejo.Civil Protection groups consist of good-hearted volunteers who work in collaboration with councils and the authorities to assist citizens.
