REPAIRS to the Cortijo del Fraile will begin “imminently.”

The semi-ruined mansion, listed as an Asset of Cultural Interest (BIC), is believed to have inspired the poet Federico Garcia Lorca to write Blood Wedding.

The property located inside the Cabo de Gata- Nijar National Park belongs to Agricola Mar Menor, based in Los Alcazares (Murcia).

Obligatory plans to halt deterioration have now been approved by the regional government, announced the company’s legal representative.

Work need no longer be delayed and a start can be made on shoring up the mansion’s chapel and south-facing walls, said Agricola Mar Menor’s owner Jose Antonio Canovas.
