Ambitious project to reunite port and city

JL Palacios

Talks are underway for an ambitious project to give new life and use to Almeria city’s port.
Following a meeting with the port authority, acting Planning Councillor Pablo Venzal said that the results had been satisfactory and a draft agreement will be draw up to take the project one step further.
The project, which would require approval from the city council, the port authorities and the Junta de Andalucia regional government, aims to remove the fence separating the port from the city and create new leisure areas, a marina and docks for cruise ships to the east while moving port activity to new docks to the west.
If approved, the project will eventually boost jobs and income by reuniting the city with its port and creating a balcony to the sea which locals have been demanding for a long time.
