BUSINESS-OWNERS in Velez-Malaga have voiced their wish to follow the lead of Torre del Mar and turn the historical centre into a pedestrian-only area. They have asked the new government, which is expected to be fully formed by June 13, to support the initiative regardless of their ideology as they claim it has improved life quality and boosted economy in Torre del Mar and could do the same for the Axarquia capital. The Partido Popular conservative party presented a project before the elections for the pedestrianisation of the area between the town’s wholesale market as far as the San Francisco district. The project has already been revised by experts and would be paid for with European funds. “We have supported mobility in our town with the pedestrianisation of Calle del Mar, Saladero Viejo and Levante, and would like to continue supporting it, if the necessary pacts with other political forces come to good terms,” said Acting Mayor of Velez-Malaga, Francisco Delgado Bonilla.
