Magical moments at the Benidorm Palace

David Climent receives 2015 Merlin Award from Tony Hassini

A DREAM came true at the Benidorm Palace on Friday June 5 for world class magician and illusionist David Climent when he was presented with The Merlin Award by International Magicians Society President Tony Hassini.
The award represents excellence for magicians all over the world, comparing to an Oscar for aspiring actors. Nominees are outstanding performers with an ever changing and thrilling stage performance that consistently outshines – and David is a classic Merlin winner.
A friend sparked David’s interest in illusion, showing him some close up magic that left him baffled and fascinated. He was hooked and since then has been inspired by the work of Hans Klock, leading to the glittering and polished performance now enthralling packed audiences at the Benidorm Palace.
Determined to fine tune his act, David is constantly improving an already fabulous show, keeping it original and unique.
David’s proud mum Cristina Climent said: “He was always led to magic, and we could see that the passion he had for it would develop. He was always very determined and we supported him all the way.”
“It’s a great honour to be receive the award,” said David, “especially to be in company with some of my childhood heroes such as Siegfried & Roy, Penn & Teller and David Copperfield, as well as the fantastic Hans Klock.”
David’s performance wowed the audience who were astounded when he vanished, only to appear in another part of the theatre, producing a full sized helicopter out of thin air before enclosing his assistants in a box and piercing it with huge swords.
The show came to a spectacular finale and a touching moment for IMS President Tony Hassini as he reverently placed a treasured Merlin in the hands of one of the world’s most talented showmen, the extraordinary David Climent.
