Perfect parking in blue zone Benidorm

BENIDORM launched its new metred parking system in the centre of the city on June 1 and local traders are delighted.
The problem with parking in Benidorm, especially in the summer, is that holidaymakers tend to park their car then abandon it until two weeks later when it is time to go home, causing chaos for everyone else.
The new blue zone around Calle Antonio Ramos Carratalá, with 44 regulated spaces, has already made an enormous difference to the ease of parking. The president of the association of restaurants, bars and cafes in Benidorm (ABRECA), Javier del Castillo, said: “It’s much better, especially in summer, to regulate the streets with blue zone parking to encourage a fair rotation of vehicles and allow everyone a chance to park.”

As a person who works in Benidorm, the new blue zones have forced me to choose between taking my car in and paying for parking and bringing in my lunch from home, or paying for public transport and bringing in my lunch as opposed to what I and many of my co workers did before. Before we came to work by car (often an hour early to find free parking and have a quick breakfast) and got lunch at various bars and restuarants in Benidorm. Benidorm needs to provide either an all day park and ride option while the blue zones are in effect, or free up some of the streets. The 2 hour limits should be increased to 4, as it is, in the shop I work in, there is a mad rush as all the employees rush to the parking meter to get their tickets (along with all the other businesses on the street) If you don’t get the ticket before time runs out not only will you be fined but you won’t be able to get another ticket in that zone for the rest of the day. Finding parking in the months of July and August has always been difficult, I carpool, as of this week I am carpooling to Altea and riding the bus into Benidorm (thank you number 10!) and will be doing my shopping in Altea not Benidorm.
