A BURST water pipe that flooded an electrical substation yesterday (June 3) in Marbella had local residents and business owners up in arms over the more than 12 hours they were left in the dark.
The Endesa station on the corner of Avenida Puerta del Mar and Calle El Fuerte was flooded as a pipe burst, which the Hidralia water company put down to either the age of the pipes or excess pressure.
Shops, bars and restaurants were forced to close, and angry business people shook their heads in despair as they thought of both the loss of income and the fresh and frozen produce they would be forced to throw away.
Meanwhile residents of local buildings, some 14 storeys high, were forced to climb endless flights of stairs in the dark.
As locals questioned who would pay for their losses, the water company explained that it would study claims and pass them on to its civil responsibility insurance company for consideration.
