FIGURES released in May by the Spanish Labour Ministry reveal that 213,015 new workers signed up to the Social Security system, which means a welcome increase of 1.25 per cent in employment since April.The figure is the biggest monthly increase since 2005, with more than 17.2 million people now paying into the system.“What’s really important here is that every day there are more people working and contributing to the system,” affirmed secretary of state for Social Security Tomás Burgos.Registered unemployment fell to just over 4.2 million in May of this year. Commenting on the positive figures, Burgos said, “We have seen 16 months of positive growth.”
