GUIAT, the Marina Baxia’s first and foremost business and listings directory, held a local business initiative at the Albir Playa Hotel and Spa on Saturday May 30.
The aim of the function was to highlight local businesses and the hall was packed with stalls offering a wide range of goods and services.
Vicente Arques, Mayor of Alfaz, opened proceedings with a speech welcoming participants and attendees. He was joined on the podium by Maria JoseTent from GUIAT and Maria Botella from Anemona, the self-help group for women who have experienced breast cancer.
Christine Milne from Anemona said: “We are here to ensure that women who have undergone surgery know there is help and assistance whenever they need it.”
Maria JoseTent told Euro Weekly News: “We feel that that through events like this we can showcase the wide range of goods and services that are locally based. It is only through supporting local businesses that the region can sustain financial growth. Growth in a local region is essential as then money gets reinvested and that promotes further development.”
Stalls included artisan conserves and pickles, beauty products, chiropractors, legal advice and of course The Euro Weekly News with some delicious nibbles and Malaga wine.
Sharon Nilsson from Centro Quiropractico Nilsson, who has been practising in Alfaz for 24 years, told The Euro Weekly News: “We find these gatherings are a vital connection with potential clients. We can meet them face to face and discuss their needs.”
Emma Mejias, co-ordinator of Ilahy Instituto Dermoestetico, which deals with all types of reconstructive surgery, said: “We always attend GUIAT functions as we find they are a wonderful way to promote our business – we feel the inter-business networking is so useful.”
Javier del Castillo took to the podium and unveiled a locally produced wine, Senorio Del Benidorm, made from the region’s grapes and packaged in a bottle with reliefs of well-known Benidorm buildings. The wine was well received and saw many returning for a second copa.
