THE Spanish Institute of Oceanography´s Centre of Balearic Research (IEO) and the University of Madrid have discovered a new species of mollusc south of Mallorca.
Described as a new species of the Mediterranean orange Tambja family, it was captured south of Mallorca during a scientific expedition aboard the ship Ramon Margalef.
The genus Tambja, which includes numerous species distributed mainly in the Pacific and Atlantic, has so far only been known to have two species in the Mediterranean, and those were restricted to the Alboran Sea, said the IEO in a statement.
