Fiñana pupils combine street guide and history lesson

PUPILS at the Sierra Nevada secondary school in Fiñana have compiled an online street guide of the town.
It is an A to Z with a difference, because the guide gives the history behind the people, places or objects that give their names to Fiñana’s streets.
The project set out to teach the 14 and 15-year-olds more about their town’s history, explained their geography and history teacher David Benitez Marchant.
“I didn’t want it to be just another lesson, but wanted them to work as a team and find out in their way,” he said.
It was a complex but satisfying undertaking that will help the group’s fellow pupils and also tourists. “The trouble is that we keep getting new ideas and it’s hard work not adding them,” Benitez admitted.
