THE Balearia Shipping Company has suspended a project that would have seen the conversion to liquefied gas turbine of the Rolls Royce engines on the yacht Foners (formally called Fortuna) and instead put it up for sale.Balearia made the decision after a research and development report along with Rolls Royce revealed the adaptation to LPG and commercial applications of the turbines had technical issues that significantly increased the initial investment, and raised maintenance costs.“The high initial investment and high maintenance costs, linked to the issues surrounding solid fuel in recent months, has made investing in the conversion even less feasible,” said a spokesman from Balearia. The final destination of the yacht they bought from Fundatur last July for €2.2 million is yet to be determined, as it awaits a buyer.
