SPANISH beaches are officially the cleanest in the world. A total of 577 beaches in Spain were awarded the prestigious Blue Flag by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) this year, an increase of four on last year’s total. Spain has topped the charts for clean beaches since the FEE started the awards in 1987.
The number of Spanish beaches awarded Blue Flags means that one in every six is a Spanish beach. The Galician area with 131 has the most, Valencia has 120 and Catalonia 89.
