British female backpacker gang raped in Thailand

A 19-YEAR-OLD British backpacker was kidnapped and gang raped by a motorcycle gang in Thailand, according to reports. The attack happened in the early hours, on Tuesday 26 May, in Kanchanaburi district, 76 miles west of Bangkok.
According to Khaosad Online, the teenager was visiting the area with a group of tourists and was staying at a well-known local resort.
After dinner at a restaurant on the Nanachart Road in Kanchanaburi on Monday, the victim is said to have walked to a shop by herself at 1.30am. It was around this time that a group of motorcyclists appeared, grabbed her and rode off. It was from there that her ordeal began. As well as being gang raped, she says the perpetrators stole from her too and left her at a market in Mueang district.
Officers are understood to be checking CCTV on the Nanachart Road, and checking feeds from security cameras, in an attempt to hunt down the gang.
A meeting of senior police officers took place at the Kanchanaburi Police head office at 11.30am Thursday (May 28) and Pol Lt Gen Wirapong Chuenphakdee, commissioner of the Provincial Police Bureau 7 ordered police to step up crackdowns on crimes in the popular tourist destination.
The British Foreign Office is said to be investigating the incident.
