PROTEST SUCCESS: Last week’s demonstration has resulted in a water study being carried out by Hidraqua.
HOUSES in Els Pontets, Crevillente, could finally be able to be connected to mains water.Hidraqua is carrying out a study to determine which rural properties have options to connect to the public supply after Mayor Cesar Augusto Asencio, commissioned a list of all those properties that could receive a supply. It comes a week after the Euro Weekly News was in Crevillente as residents of Els Pontets protested outside the town hall, demanding the mayor take action and resolve their water issue. Around 1,000 people in the area were without water following a legal dispute between two private companies that run their reservoir supply, with one claiming the other owes them money. They also produced independent water reports showing it was contaminated and unfit for even watering plants. The mayor had continually said the town hall was unable to assist as the issue was a dispute between two private companies, but he is now studying which rural areas can be connected.
