Local elections bring in some interesting characters this year!

WITH most eyes on Spain’s regional elections as pacts are hammered out, the local elections have also drummed up some unique attention of their own.
Unlike the stereotypical candidates normally vying for seats, this year a new breed of potential mayors and councillors have came to the forefront in the shape of TV personalities and rock stars, to name but a few.
1. Miguel Joven, who played ‘Tito’ in a famous 1980s Spanish TV show Verano Azul, was one of the forerunners in Nerja’s election.
2. Singer and bass guitarist Victor Navas of the band Cucaracha Dandi ran for elections in Benalmadena, but was unfortunately unsuccessful in his attempt to bring Benalmadena into socialist power.
3. Even more exciting was the appointment of Dean Tyler Shelton, a British expat, who is the first foreigner to take up the position of councillor in the town of Manilva.
