NATIONAL Police force officers in Malaga held a memorial ceremony yesterday, May 21, for the 19 officers who have died in service in the province.
The ceremony marked the first anniversary of the death of officer Francisco Diaz Jimenez, who died after being stabbed by a suspect.
Provincial chief of police Pedro Garijo spoke of the “anonymous heroes who gave their lives to defend freedom,” listing the names of all officers who have died while on duty since 1922.
Local and government representatives attended the solemn event, during which Malaga City Mayor Francisco de la Torre and government delegate for Malaga, Jorge Hernandez Mollar, placed a wreath in memory of the deceased officers at the memorial to Francisco Diaz.
