Hepburn ‘wedding’ in Alhambra controversy continues

NINE months on, arguments continue over Audrey Hepburn’s son’s wedding in Granada as some believe rules were broken to allow it to be held inside the Alhambra.
Although Sean, the British actress’s son, paid €3,490 to use the Palace of Carlos V within the monument to hold a post-ceremony concert, security guards reported that it was in fact an excuse and the wedding itself was held there.
While the town hall declared that the wedding ceremony was held elsewhere beforehand but was unable to say where, the guards’ reports said that: “Once inside the patio of the Palacio de Carlos V, with the guests seated for the concert and with no advance warning, the mayor and Culture councillor of Granada held a wedding ceremony.”
Council sources meanwhile said that no wedding was held, even though the couple was dressed for the occasion, documents were signed and the mayor gave a speech to the couple and their guests.
The general director of the Alhambra and Generalife trust, Maria del Mar Villafranca, has written to the Culture councillor expressing her annoyance at what she considered to be an abuse of power and trust on the part of the two municipal representatives, and passed the case over to the Alhambra directors and the Junta de Andalucia regional government’s lawyers for investigation.
